Jamie and I were introduced to the Fairway Project about one year ago. Jamie was attending Park school in Kilmarnock at the time, and with the end of the term looming I was wondering what Jamie was going to do now.
The social services were very slow to contact me with information on what afterschool elements were in place for socialising with people the same age as Jamie. I then received a phone call from Alison, Assistant Project Manager from the Fairway Project asking if we could meet and that Jamie had been referred to her from someone at Park school.
Alison from the project was brilliant as she walked Jamie and myself through the process and explained all the ins and outs of the group as well as what would be coming up in the future. It sounded fabulous and went along with it all.
Jamie was a good bit apprehensive and quiet at the time so I did not know how he would react, but with a lot of persuasion and coaxing, Jamie has come on leaps and bounds, going to all the outings and groups. He has now just started a Friendship Circle group, which a year ago I would not have imagined.
The staff and the peer mentors are a breath of fresh air to Jamie and me, and it also gives me some free time to myself, which is a god send.
Due to the professionalism of the Fairway Project and the eagerness of the staff to help in any way they can, the young adults have all the support they need to move on to better things ahead.
Thank you all at Fairway
Regards
Jim and Jamie MacGregor
